@@@^The command, “Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ruhamah,” in itself explains that God is speaking to Jezreel, (Ammi’s and Ruhamah’s brother), and that Jezreel in turn is to speak to Ammi and to Ruhamah. And the fact that God calls Hosea’s visionary wife His Own wife, the subject becomes still clearer: Hosea, you see, represents God, and Hosea’s wife represents God’s church; Jezreel, the one God speaks to, represents His mouth piece, a prophet, and Jezreel’s brethren, Ammi and Ruhamah, represent the members of the church, both male and female. Now, as Ammi and Ruhamah represent the laity, it is obvious that the mother represents the ministry, those who bring forth converts into the church. Here we have a complete representation of the household of God.

@@@^Because the purification is now the Church’s only hope, the Devil is doing all in his power, through the medium of idolized men (apparently no less pious than the priests who crucified the Lord), to suppress knowledge of it, and to create fear, prejudice, hatred, and confusion against the Voice of God, and to blacken the character of His agencies. Moreover, the Enemy’s exalted zealots, so well satisfied that they have need of nothing, are already in spite of Heaven’s commands to the contrary, casting out of the churches anyone who investigates God’s “Message to the Laodiceans,” or who conforms to it. What, O, what has the Denomination degenerated into? What exceeding folly, too, for it to assume to dictate to its members whose writings they should read and whose they should not read, as if they had neither mind nor conscience of their own, and as if God either could not or would not convict them through their own intellects, but must depend on the intellects of the ministers who by such folly are unconsciously assuming to take God’s place! Their very act of not only discouraging but even prohibiting the reading of the publications, is in itself a strong evidence that the publications contain the Truth for this time, and that the Enemy wants God’s people to be ignorant of It. One can scarcely conceive of any other design so well calculated to make of God’s people mental and spiritual invalids and, in consequence, to keep them in submissive ignorance of the fact that the plan of salvation demands that they be enlightened Christians, able to see with their own eyes and to know with their own hearts what is what and who is who.

@@@^The symbol can represent only one thing, and that is the world’s history in two great divisions of time; namely B.C. and A.D. with the cross (Christ), the dividing line. “For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.” It is for this reason Jesus made the statement for we have no other thus far. The years of plenty is B.C. in which time God gave plenty to supply the world’s need for the years of famine (New Testament time, A.D.). As Joseph gathered the corn into storehouses by his servants,—the Egyptians, just so Christ gathered the Word of God (spiritual food) in the Bible (the storehouse) by His servants, the prophets. “@9God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets@7, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds.” Heb. 1:1, 2. Had it not been for this purpose then we ask, what could it have been for? God who was responsible for the event did it not to bring hardships to His subjects, or to starve the world, as the famine was not in Egypt only, for we read, “And the famine was over all the face of the earth.” Gen. 41:56. Had this not been the symbol, why would God have brought the famine over all the earth? Some people may have difficulty in being convinced, and others can never be convinced, but the harmony of the lesson can hardly be questioned.
