@@@^The third person in line comes with the following passages: Volume 6, pages 215, 216, “Our conferences look to the schools for educated and well-trained laborers, and they should give the schools a most hearty and intelligent support. Light has been plainly given that those who minister in our schools, @9teaching@7 the word of God @9explaining@7 the Scriptures, @9educating@7 the students in the @9things@7 of God, should be supported by the tithe money… @9The same@7 principles which, if followed, will bring success and blessing to our training-schools and colleges, should govern our plans and work for the church schools.” This prophet whom you say is a prophet of God says thus and so. Why then do you not pay our school teachers by the tithe as God has commanded? Why do you desecrate the Sabbath by raising the teacher’s salary in the hour of worship? If this is a prophet of God, why have you lightly esteemed the instructions given? Do you not fear God? Now what can be said to this man? We may not say anything. But that will not hide the evil for our works have revealed the following secret, “Yes, that is what God has said by His prophet, but that is not what we do.”

@@@^The readers attention is again called to the chart. The double track passing by Abel and around the cross, shows that the Sabbath and the Sanctuary truths are eternal and divine, and that the recognition of their sacredness had never been thrown out from the church of God until after 508 A.D.; at which time the “goat” with his great horn “cast down the truth to the ground.” But in the year 1844, God’s truth by the power of the “Three Angels’ Messages,” was again brought to light. It is evident that the Sabbath and the Sanctuary, (the law and the gospel) are inseparable. If you have been disobedient to God’s word in any form, will you now, at the last call, say, “Lord, here I am. Take my stony heart and give me a heart of flesh?” Will you plead that He write His law in your heart? The angel is waiting to seal you with the seal of God. Will you choose darkness rather than light? As the angel is lightening the earth with his glory, will you let him lighten your heart? Yet a little while and God’s truth shall triumph, why should you remain behind? Will you stubbornly worship, like Cain, with a religion that cannot save? Will you dishonor the Saviour who died for you, and honor the adversary and enemy of your soul? Why should you perish in just a little while, in the dark millennium? (Follow the chart.) Will you be ready when Jesus comes to take His saints to the mansions above? Take notice that the keeping of the truth is the train to the city of God. “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Eccl. 12:13.)

If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.”@7@^Here we are told that the theories — wood, hay, stubble — brought in by men whom God has not sent, not inspired, such as I called your attention to at the beginning, theories which appear to arise from a great store of knowledge, but which are devoid of the Spirit, are as you already see rubbish on which the fire of God thrives and the souls of men starve.

@@@^This Sanitarium incident, though, produced another disappointing picture in my mind. Is that Sanitarium God’s place for His sick people? I asked myself. Is this people really God’s people? The answer that came to these question was this: the Sanitarium is God’s, and the church is God’s, but the people that are running them are reactionaries, they are the modern priests, scribes and Pharisees, that there is a need for more Samaritans among them. This is where God’s Truth is, though, and God helping me, I said, I shall stay with it. Yes, God did help me, I kept the faith, complained about nothing and stayed in the church with as good record as any.

Also we made ordinances for us, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God.”@7@^Here you see a record of complete revival and reformation such as had never been. The things that were revived are these: (1) The house of God was rebuilt and the sacred services re-instituted; (2) the old wastes were rebuilt, and the city reinhabited. The reforms which took place were: (1) The priests and the Levites were all purified; (2) all the children of the captivity separated themselves from the filthiness of the heathen; (3) all “entered into a curse and into an oath, to walk in God’s law,” to observe His judgments and His statutes, not to give their daughters to the people of the land, nor to take their daughters for wives for their sons; (4) they made Sabbath observance a strict rule; and (5) they liberally pledged to support the work of God with their means. Such genuine and complete revival and reformation had never been launched since man fell in sin.

@@@^@0@9Hag. 1:12-14 — “Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the Lord. Then spake Haggai the Lord’s messenger in the Lord’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the Lord. And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God.”@7@^These verses tell us that just as soon as all the people gave heed to the messengers of God, just that soon the Spirit of the Lord stirred their energies, and then immediately all went to work. We, too, will have just such an experience if we now settle it in our minds that from this hour on we will pay strict attention to the message of God and serve the Lord our God with whole heart and soul. Let us not put off God’s blessings from us.

He tenderly calls them “My flock,” and reassures them that He is their God. He will, without fail set one shepherd to accomplish what a multitude of shepherds have failed to do. Now is your opportunity to feast on “meat in due season,” at the hand of God’s chosen shepherd, or starve on husks at the hand of a multitude of shepherds.

@@@^Isa. 59:16-18 “Therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. For he put on righteousness as a breast plate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.” God clothes Himself with His own attributes, and advances to set things right. Had there been a man, God would have let the man do the work, but as there was none, He does it Himself. This reveals one of God’s working principles. He will use one man, or a nation, to help correct or punish another. When that cannot be done, God steps in. While God will come with vengeance to some, He comes with salvation to others. Isa. 59:20: “And the Redeemer shall come to Zion.” This is not referring to the second coming of Christ in the clouds, for it takes place before probation closes. He is not coming with vengeance to the ungodly in the world, but coming to the church. And when He comes, He will do the work mentioned in Mal. 3:1-3.

@@@^Verse 16: “That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from Mine eyes.” “Bless himself in the God of truth”: Many people will bless themselves, but not in the God of truth. That is, they obtain riches, or some other blessing but not by honesty. Some “sweareth,” but not by the God of truth. That is, they will tell a falsehood, but after God purifies His church all these things shall pass away, and be forgotten.

@@@^After the dragon was cast down from heaven according to the vision says John: “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” (Rev. 12:10.) “Satan’s accusations against those who seek the Lord are not prompted by displeasure at their sin. He exults in their defective characters; for he knows that only through their transgression of God’s law can he obtain power over them.”—Prophets and Kings, pp. 585, 586. When the Spirit of God prompts to reprove, He will reveal sin and rebuke the sinner. But Satan, encourages the sinner to unconsciously commit himself in transgression, then he accuses him before the great Judge @9in Heaven@7, as “being clothed with the garments of blackness and the defilement of sin,” to secure his condemnation. God’s people must learn to detect the voice of the Spirit of Christ, as well as the spirit of Satan. When the two clash, the One will strive for obedience to God’s Word, but the other will excuse the sin and sympathize with the sinner. In this way Satan gains ground, for the sinner loves his sin.

@@@^Just such ignorance of God’s Word in the days of Noah brought the world to its destruction by water. A similar wicked condition reduced to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. If in the days of Christ, just such hypocrisy, under the appearance of virtue, required the life of the Son of God to Preserve the world from destruction, what would the outcome be at this present time? God cannot destroy the world, for He has a multitude to save. He has no other Son for a gift to the church, for Christ is the “@9only@7 begotten” Son of God. If God’s ideal is to bless the world through the medium of His church on earth, and they to whom the gospel for the world is committed have left the sheep and are serving the devil, in the person of themselves, where is the hope of the world? The only answer that can be given is, @9woe to the sinners in Zion@7. God will gather His sheep. He will have a church; but what will be the reward of those who were instructed to feed the lambs and are feeding themselves? Christ, who sees the end from the beginning, and with his all-seeing eye focused on present day conditions, has said: “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, that he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The Lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites [with the heads of the beasts]; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt. 24:45-51.)

@@@^Men who are esteemed great by the world, God can seldom use. In general, the great educators of the age are carnal minded, therefore the product from the schools of men is enmity against God. “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” (Rom. 8:7.) If God would use them they must first, with the great apostle, deny themselves. Said Paul: “To preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to @9nothing@7 the understanding of the @9prudent@7.” (1 Cor. 1:17, 19.) “And, I brethren, when I came to you, came @9not with excellency of speech@7 or of @9wisdom@7, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching @9was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom@7, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.” (1 Cor. 2:1-4.)

@@@^God took Moses to the desert and there under His supervision He trained him for forty years—when Moses unlearned all he had learned in the schools of Egypt, then only was God able to use him for an instrument of His mighty arm. When Moses felt capable to deliver Israel from Egyptian bondage he failed; but when he saw himself helpless, then he was strong. If God should give great light to a man who is high in his own esteem, and held likewise by the world, man would glorify himself and rob God of the glory. “At this time Jesus answered and said, I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because Thou hast @9hid@7 these things from the @9wise@7 and @9prudent@7, and hast revealed them to @9babes@7.” (Matt. 11:25.) God reveals Himself through instruments and ways least suspected by men. Thus He performs a miracle by making impossibilities possible, revealing His power and arousing the sleeper with @9light@7 and @9voice divine@7. Men of distinction have seldom accepted any light upon the Word of God simply on the value of its truth; this class generally accepts Biblical truth after it becomes popular and when preached by men esteemed higher than themselves.

@@@^As Israel and the Gentiles in the first and second calls comprised God’s church in the vineyard then the third, fourth, and fifth calls must represent the church in the vineyard as well. We turn the reader’s attention to the “woman” with the crown of twelve stars of Revelation 12:1, 6, 14. She being a symbol of the church, was given the wings of an eagle to fly into the @9wilderness@7 for 1260 days—years. Therefore, while she was in the wilderness there could have been no church @9in the vineyard.@7 The long prophetic period has been fixed and accepted to be the period from 538 A.D. to 1798 A.D. Therefore, during the long wilderness journey of the “woman,” there can be no call for laborers in the “vineyard.” Thus, the three last calls in the parable must have met their fulfillment after 1798, at which time the “woman” was to return from the “wilderness.” Consequently the following question is asked: If the church (“woman”) was in the wilderness between the years 538 and 1798, in which period the above stated reformers did their wonderful work to bring about reformation by obedience to the Scriptures, were they not called out and sent by God? Answer.—Surely they were. There can be no doubt about it. Their work, character, and sacrifice answers the question. Think of Luther, the father of Protestantism, who risked his life like those of God’s great servants in the past. God, by the hand of Luther, tore asunder the doors of darkness, brought an end to the terrible persecution and bloodshed of the saints of the most High, and caused the light in His written word to shine into the hearts of men. Had it not been for the earnest and zealous efforts of these godly reformers, the woman (church) would have been in the wilderness until this day, and there would have been no Protestantism. Thus, their unselfish service broke the power of despotism and by the imprisonment of the Pope terminated the long prophetic period. Therefore, God, through the service of these men was to bring the “woman” (church) from the wilderness and prepare the way for the third call, at the sixth hour.

Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit on thy throne, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.” (Isa. 52:1, 2; A.R.V.) As these words are so plain, how can we doubt, or misconstrue their meaning?—It must be that the church of God is asleep in the dust! Thy God is calling thee, O Zion. God’s church, “the only object on earth upon which He bestows His supreme regard” is in captivity; she is bound by her “neck” to “men of good words and fair speeches.” Hear the Words of thy God, O Zion, arise and sit on thy throne for thou shall judge nations. Why make flesh thy arm? Is not thy God able to save thee? Is not the “Word of thy God quick, and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart?” “For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, @9until@7 the @9righteousness@7 thereof go forth as @9brightness@7, and the @9salvation@7 thereof @9as@7 a @9lamp@7 that @9burneth@7.” My brethren,”@9go@7 through, @9go@7 through the gates; @9prepare ye the way of the people@7; cast up, cast up the @9highway@7; gather @9out@7 the stones; @9lift up a standard for the people.@7” (Isa. 62:1, 10.)

@@@^On this Scripture was the message based, prophetically declaring, that 144,000 will be marked, and the balance now in the church must suffer the consequences except they repent and march on with the truth of God. But though not one of the entire denomination has been able to contradict the truth of the 144,000 as a whole, or even in part, nor have they dared refute the charge regarding the fostered abominations in the midst of them, they have risen against the message and prefer to hold to their abominations just as the enemies of God opposed the construction of the temple to the very last. As the decree by the king of Medo-Persia declared to the foes of the house of God saying: “Whosoever shall alter this word let his house be made a dunghill for this.” Just so the Word of God has declared now, “slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women.” If such a message as this would not convince the professed people of God to do better, then what can do it? Nevertheless, as God’s purpose was carried out in the type, just so it will be in the anti-type. It is remarkable to note how perfectly the anti-type coincides with the type.
