And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves.’ These traffickers might have pleaded as an excuse that the articles they held for sale were for sacrificial offerings. But their object was to get gain, to obtain means, to accumulate.

@@@^The so-called Christian world of today has so far drifted from God’s ideal for His church as to have arrived at a point where even Christ’s own prayer fails to disillusion them, and to bring them to a realization that their varied beliefs of being all right are sure to be all wrong. Those who are not affiliated with any church, and for whose conversion the churches claim to be fully exerting their means and time, look on with scorn and laughter at this delusion and hypocrisy. Such Christians are only pleasing Satan and cheating themselves and those who watch them.

The time, moreover, had elapsed, and Jerusalem was still a waste. So later “in the first year of Darius,” who “was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans” (Dan. 9:1), Daniel was shown “by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.” Dan. 9:2. Jerusalem, however, was still a desolation, though the time of the people’s captivity according to prophecy was fulfilled and the vision was still “none [not] understood,” as is clearly seen from Daniel’s prayer:

Now, their pride humbled in the dust, Aaron confessed their sin, and entreated that his sister might not be left to perish by that loathsome and deadly scourge. In answer to the prayers of Moses, the leprosy was cleansed. Miriam was, however, shut out of the camp for seven days. Not until she was banished from the encampment did the symbol of God’s favor again rest upon the tabernacle.
