Exodus 225:4

@@@^With the previous explanation of Revelation 6:6, (“A measure of wheat for a penny a nd three measures of barley for a penny”), we shall endeavor to prove that the symbols point back to the parable of the householder, and Jesus allegorically looked forward to John’s vision. If the explanation perfectly fits the parable and the vision, in harmony with God’s book and law, and a present truth lesson is derived therefrom, then only must we accept it as truth.

Exodus 226:1

@@@^Matt. 20:1, 2, “For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.” Jesus could have no reference to any other people than Israel after the flesh, for they are the ones with whom God bargained and sent into His vineyard—world. Their labor consisted of representing the Creator or householder, and giving us the Bible. The Psalmist has made the following record of the agreement: “He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. Which covenant He made with Abraham, and His oath unto Isaac, And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant.” (Psalms 105:8-10.)

Exodus 232:2

@@@^Moses spent forty years in the school of Christ. While keeping sheep he exchanged his Egyptian training for the knowledge and wisdom of the Great @9I Am@7. Thus he was fitted to lead His people out of Egypt. Paul was shown that his worldly wisdom derived in the school of men was harmful, and useless in the work of Christ, so the apostle declared: “And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with @9excellency@7 of @9speech or of wisdom@7, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And my speech and my preaching was @9not with enticing words of man’s wisdom@7, but in demonstration of the @9spirit and of power.@7” (1 Cor. 2:1, 2, 4.) Paul meant that he had determined to preach Bible and Bible only, which reveals Christ and Him crucified. Preached by the power of the Spirit of God, and not by wisdom of men. Thus, the learned apostle stooped to the level of the ignorant fishermen in human knowledge, at the same time climbing up with the eleven in divine wisdom, which in comparison earthly honor and human greatness sink into insignificance. Therefore, the sacred cannot be mingled with the common.

Exodus 234:3

@@@^Now the question why the voice from the throne said, “One measure of wheat for a penny,” first, and “three measures of barley for a penny,” last, will be answered. Humanly speaking it should have been the reverse, for by the wheat is represented the last message (eleventh hour) and by the barley the first (early in the morning—Israel going out of Egypt). Had the voice reversed the enumeration of the cereals, it would have been wrong, for said Jesus: “So when even was come, the Lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they should receive more; and they likewise received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. But he answered one of them and said Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? So the @9last@7 shall be @9first@7, and the @9first last@7: for many be called, but few chosen.” (Matt. 20:8-16.) Thus a measure of wheat for a penny, first, and three measures of barley for a penny, last. They that murmured represent that part of the Jewish nation who were unworthy, and the phrase, “@9Friend@7, I do thee no wrong… Take that thine is, and go thy way,” denotes the rejection of the nation.

@@@^Some may question the evidence for allowing three hours to each incident—from creation to the fall of Adam, and again to Enoch and Noah. If God worked on the three hour schedule with the crucifixion of Jesus (see chart on page 22), and the same rule was followed in the period called “day,” then He certainly would not follow another rule in the period called “night.” The reason He has followed that particular rule is to present to His church the exact time of her history by periods.

@@@^The twelfth hour on the dial, to the left, represents sunrise and on the right, sunset; the sixth hour in the light part, noon, and six in the dark part, midnight. The message at the sixth hour by Miller is called the Midnight cry (see “Early Writings,” p. 277.) because it corresponds with that of Enoch. Said Jesus: “And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh: go ye out to meet him.” (Matt. 25:6.) The sixth hour in the light part stands also as noon when the sun is in its full strength. The Bible began to rise at the twelfth hour and when the message by Miller was preached, represented by the sixth hour call, both Old and New Testaments had been compiled and published; thus it also denotes mid-day.

Exodus
Exodus 238:3

@@@^The message proclaimed by Enoch was a prophecy looking forward to 1844 when Jesus came into the most holy place with His saints for the investigative judgment. Therefore, the preaching by Miller was a fulfillment of the prophecy by Enoch. Thus it is called the Midnight Cry. As the subject of the judgment was not to be understood until after its session had commenced, it was impossible for Miller to make the proper application for the then-expected event. Note the grammatical expression Christ used: “There @9was@7 a cry @9made@7.” He uses Past tense, proving the fact that the true meaning of Miller’s message was to be understood after the call was made. There “@9was@7,” said He, instead of there @9shall@7 be a “cry.”

Exodus 238:4

@@@^The evidence in this study proves the divinity of Christ, and His power in vision even to the smallest of details, in past, present and future. If such a truth as this, so plain and simple, so strong and certain in revealing the wonders of the Scriptures would not change the heart of the reader then we conclude that nothing greater would be of any value. If the dead should arise from the grave, or even if an angel should descend from heaven, that class would attribute the power to the Devil. The Psalmist describes the Majesty of God’s Word in the following language: “I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy name for Thy loving kindness and for Thy truth: for Thou hast @9magnified Thy word above all Thy name.@7” (Psa. 138:2.) Said Jesus: “If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.” (Luke 16:31.)

Exodus 259:2

@@@^Speaking of the ancient temple the Scripture says: “And the house, when it was in building was built of stones made ready @9before@7 it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.” (1 Kings 6:7.) A peculiar stone which was prepared to fit the main corner of the temple, was disallowed; and though the @9builders@7 refused the “head-stone” of the house, the Psalmist says: “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.” By the refusal of the “stone,” the Lord typified, and thus prophesied, the rejection of Christ by the Jewish nation. (See The Acts 4:10, 11.) For Jesus says: “The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head [stone] of the corner.” (Matt. 21:42.) Therefore if it is become the head of the corner, then it is evident that the first temple was a representation of a Spiritual house, and a type of the Christian church, Christ himself was represented by the chief corner stone “which the builders refused,” as being both the head and the founder of the Christian church.

Exodus
Exodus 262:4

@@@^Let us not suppose that when Christ appears in the clouds the infirmities of the saints are to be removed. This work must be done previous to that time, after which immortality shall be granted. “He that believeth in me, the works that I do,” said Jesus, “shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do.” (John 14:12.) The perfect fulfillment of these words are yet future and must be fulfilled before His second advent. “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Cor. 15:53, 54.)

Exodus
Exodus 265:1

@@@^“The remnant of Israel [the 144,000] shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.” (Zeph. 3:13.) “In @9that day@7 shall there be upon the bells of the horses [those that carry the gospel] @9holiness unto the Lord@7; and the @9pots@7 [in whose possession is the truth] in the Lord’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar [pure and undefiled]. Yea, @9every pot @7in Jerusalem [the church] and in Judah [the leading part of the church] shall be @9holiness unto the Lord of hosts@7, and all they that sacrifice [offering] shall come and take of them, and seeth therein [they who administer in sacred things], and in @9that day@7 there shall be @9no more@7 the Canaanite [unconverted] in the house of the Lord of hosts.” (Zech. 14:20, 21.) This is the church that is represented in Revelation 12:17, “Which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” The “woman” represents the church as a body. “The remnant of her seed” are the 144,000 against whom the dragon makes war. The war is waged against them, because they are the earthly leaders and founders of the movement. “Of her seed” signifies that they are part of “the woman,” or in other words, the 144,000, and the great multitude, is but one movement—one family.

Exodus
Exodus 267:1

@@@^The “temples” and the “woman” represent the church as a body; or in other words, the symbol of the woman is a revelation of the types (temples), and the temples are symbolical prophecies of the “woman”—church. It will be noticed that the separate members of that church are represented by the composite substance of the temples: “As @9lively stones@7 are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5.) “So we being many, are @9one@7 body in Christ, and every one members one of another.” (Rom. 12:5.) “In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord.” (Eph. 2:21.) Therefore, these two temples represent both—the church, and Christ. Christ our High Priest, is prefigured by the “chief-corner-stone,” and His priestly administration by the ceremonial or sanctuary service of these two literal temples.

Exodus
Exodus 268:2

@@@^The foregoing explanation answers one of our questions. The Protestant churches which were raised up before the “woman” returned from the wilderness were in total darkness concerning the sanctuary service. Therefore, they are not represented by the “woman,” or by the “temple,” for, as we stated before, the typical temples represent both sections of the church with @9two divine laws@7; namely, moral and ceremonial. Thus the “woman” represents a church that keep the “commandments of God—moral law, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ”—ceremonial law or the plan of salvation revealed in the light of “The Spirit of Prophecy.” (Rev. 12:17.) The reformers, before the “woman” returned from the wilderness, were divinely called out as a preparatory step to bring her back to the “vineyard”; that is, to establish a true anti-typical temple service—true church worship.

@@@^But though this second decree carried additional power against the temple foes, they made the Jews cease by force of arms. The type by the second decree unmistakably reveals that there should have been another message after 1844, which with additional mention should have declared—go forward by faith, endeavor to establish a clean church and a true worship by obedience to the Word of God (righteousness by faith). The type also discloses that this second message would have been defeated and the work frustrated. Now note how perfectly the type coincides, reveals the truth, and exposes the schemes of the devil. In 1888 just such a message (decree) went forth, but the leaders at that time rejected it as the following testimonies prove: “The Lord in His great mercy sent a most precious message to His people. This message was to bring more prominently before the world the uplifted Saviour, the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. It presented justification through faith in the Surety; it invited the people to receive the righteousness of Christ, which is made manifest in @9obedience@7 to @9all@7 the commandments of God. Many have lost sight of Jesus.”—“Testimonies to Ministers,” p. 91.

@@@^The message was delivered with the power of the Spirit says the messenger: “I shall never again, I think, be called to stand under the direction of the Holy Spirit as I stood at Minneapolis. The presence of Jesus was with me. All assembled in that meeting had an opportunity to place themselves on the side of truth by receiving the Holy Spirit, which was sent by God in such a rich current of love and mercy. But in the rooms occupied by some of our people were heard ridicule, criticism, jeering, laughter. The manifestations of the Holy Spirit were attributed to fanaticism… The scenes which took place at that meeting made the God of heaven ashamed to call those who took part in them His brethren. All this the heavenly Watcher noticed, and it was written in the book of God’s remembrance.”—“Special Testimony to Review and Herald Office,” pp. 16, 17, written in 1896.

Exodus 286:4

@@@^This prophetic symbol unmistakably points forward to a heavenly agency absorbing human weakness and imperfection into everlasting glory. “A glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” (Eph. 5:27.) A church that keeps “the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” “Clad in the armor of Christ’s righteousness, the church is to enter upon her final conflict. ‘Fair as the moon clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners,’ she is to go forth into all the world, conquering and to conquer.”—“Prophets and Kings,” p. 725. (Song of Sol. 6:10.) To this “candlestick” is the promise: “Behold, I will make thee a new @9sharp@7 threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff. (Isa. 41:15.)

@@@^“They will question and criticize the work and position of others, criticize every branch of the work in which they have not themselves a part. They will feed upon the errors and mistakes and faults of others, ‘until,’ @9said the angel,@7 ‘the Lord Jesus shall rise up from His mediatorial work in the heavenly sanctuary, and shall clothe Himself with the garments of vengeance, and surprise them at their unholy feast; and they will find themselves unprepared for the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” ”Testimonies for the Church,” Vol. 5, p. 690.

Deuteronomy 4:2

@@@^If an angel can make the trip from heaven to earth in less than fifteen minutes (Dan. 9:23), then is it not reasonable that Christ also can do likewise? His answer to Mary, after His resurrection, “touch Me not; for I am not yet ascended to My Father: but go to My brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto My Father, and your Father; and to My God, and your God. Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you (John 20:17, 19 ), proves the fact that Christ went to heaven and returned on the same day. Hence, if it is possible for our General Conference president to attend his business in Washington, D.C., and at the same time make a trip to some distant country, which will take him months to accomplish, is it not much more possible for Christ to attend both places while He can travel back and forth by an incomprehensibly greater speed than lightning?

Deuteronomy 4:5

@@@^“He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but My Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matt. 16:15-19.)

Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy 4:6

@@@^Let us first note the reason why Jesus said to Peter instead of to some one else of the disciples. “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” Peter was the only one that gave the right answer to Christ’s question, and Christ declared that “flesh and blood” could not have revealed the truth to Peter but the “Father” only.
