@@@^This time of trouble is also described by the Spirit of Prophecy. Early Writings, pages 33, 34: “And at the commencement of the time of trouble, we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth and proclaimed the Sabbath @9more@7 fully… The wicked thought that we had brought the judgments upon them, and they rose up and took counsel to rid the earth of us, thinking that then the evil would be stayed. In the time of trouble we all fled from the cities and villages, but were pursued by the wicked, who entered the houses of the saints with a sword.” Also pages 282, 283. “I saw the saints leaving the cities and villages and associating together in companies, and living in the most solitary places. Angels provided them food and water, while the wicked were suffering from hunger and thirst. Then I saw the leading men of the earth consulting together, and Satan and his angels busy around them. I saw a writing, copies of which were scattered in different parts of the land, giving orders that unless the saints should yield their peculiar faith, give up the Sabbath, and observe the first day of the week, the people were at liberty after a certain time, to put them to death.” Jeremiah also describes this troublous time. “The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.” Jer. 6:3.
Genesis 186:1
@@@^We teach tithing for the support of the gospel. We claim we are the people who keep the @9commandments@7 of God and have the @9testimony@7 of Jesus, the latter being the gift of the Spirit of Prophecy; also the doctrines of health reform, dress reform, etc. The chief and only purpose of these doctrines being to prepare a peculiar people to God’s own glory and honor; a people to meet the Lord without tasting death, or, to rise in the special resurrection of Daniel 12. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal Priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” 1 Pet. 2:9.
Exodus 16:1
@@@^Though truths are revealed through inspired channels, the instrument of iniquity has often mixed them with error. Such iniquitous workers oft times resort to the use of portions of divine revelation, unlawfully using them as an entering wedge to pass on error and thus deceive the simple. Let none flatter themselves that they can escape the clutches of the devil by the studious effort of another. Everyone must study for himself to understand his own position, and with candid mind be ready to listen to all with a teachable spirit of a child. “Verily I say unto you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” (Mark 10:15.) Prejudice, has beguiled and ruined more souls than any trap ever devised by the great deceiver. The one who refuses to listen to reasons offered by another, is the most ignorant. Such a man is usually prejudiced because the argument presented contradicts his view of the subject, or it may be that he considers himself more intellectual or of superior social standing. Others will not hear the truth because it hurts their sinful conscience and for fear that they must part from some selfish lust. This class is under the power of the devil, and on the way to everlasting ruin—sinning against the @9Holy Ghost@7. Those who are sincere in their errors are the very ones who are found in the bottom of the devil’s kidnaping bag. This class is the hardest to convince that they are on the way to hell.
Exodus 18:1
@@@^One of the chief reasons why confusion arises among Bible students is because they do not entirely depend on the Biblical expression of the words. They think themselves wiser than the prophets who were inspired with the Spirit of God, and thus wish to correct the words and meaning of the Holy Bible! Hence finite mortals have attempted to rectify and correct the Infinite One, whose wisdom, power, and vision is unsearchable! Though they know their interpretation of a text is not altogether in harmony with the whole tenor of the book and law, they see no injury, and fear not God. And when the fact is revealed they refuse to exchange error for truth because it contradicts their false theology. We invite the earnest attention of the reader upon this subject and that he take notice of the wonderful harmony of the Scriptures and the great wisdom used in them.
Exodus 97:2
@@@^By the divinely called movement, and aided by the writings of the “Spirit of Prophecy,” God’s intention was to keep the “deadly wound” on the “head.” But the prophetic Word of God says: “His deadly wound was @9healed.”@7 Since God’s Holy Word declares that the wound was healed, and as the prophecy cannot be broken, it is positive that the wound is “healed.”
Exodus 165:2
@@@^The definition of “general” is: “extensive but not universal.” Therefore it does not mean the destruction of the world at the appearance of the Lord; but it has reference to the wicked in the church. This slaughter is literal, it is to separate and release God’s people from sin and sinners, otherwise the marking would be of no value. The same subject is again brought to view in “Testimonies for the Church,” Vol. 5, page 211: “Here we @9see@7 that @9the church@7—the Lord’s sanctuary—was the first to feel the stroke of the wrath of God.” The wrath of God cannot, and never has been spiritual. We are again reminded that the 144,000 are the @9remnant@7: “@9Now@7 indeed are the @9remnant@7 ‘men wondered at’ . . . ‘In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely @9for them@7 that are @9escaped@7 of @9Israel@7. And it shall come to pass, That he that is @9left in Zion@7, and he that @9remaineth in Jerusalem@7, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living @9in@7 Jerusalem.’”—“Testimonies for the Church,” Vol. 5, page 476. Thus the 144,000 are those who are sealed in the @9judgment for@7 the @9church@7, and with them the judgment for the living commenced. Therefore, they are the first fruits.
Exodus 189:3
@@@^The description of the place is such that it bears evidence of being in the heavenly sanctuary. The same is supported by the Spirit of Prophecy: “As in vision the apostle John was granted a view of the @9Temple@7 of God in heaven, he beheld there ‘seven lamps of fire burning before the throne.’ He saw an angel ‘having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.’ Here the prophet was permitted to behold the first apartment of the @9sanctuary@7 in heaven; and he saw there the ‘seven lamps of fire’ and the ‘golden altar’ represented by the golden candlestick and the altar of incense in the sanctuary on earth. Again, ‘the temple of God was @9opened@7’, and he looked @9within the inner vail@7, upon the holy of holies. Here he beheld ‘the ark of His testament,’ represented by the sacred chest constructed by Moses to contain the law of God.”—“Patriarchs and Prophets,” page 356.
Exodus 217:4
@@@^The prophet saw Christ himself returning from the slaughter of the Edomites—the class who were deceiving God’s people in the church, the tares, or adversaries who had trodden down His sanctuary. “Bozrah” means “sheepfold”—the church. He saw His garments stained with the blood of the tares, in delivering His people from their hands. The prophet asked: “Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth the winefat?” The purification of the church makes it necessary for Christ to leave the place of judgment and descend to deliver His redeemed (the 144,000), and this is what causes the judgment to cease, and the voices to be silenced for about half an hour—seven days. The Spirit of Prophecy bears witness of the same. “The Lord Jesus shall rise up from His mediatorial work in the heavenly sanctuary, and shall clothe himself with the garments of vengeance, and surprise them at their unholy feast; and they will find themselves unprepared for the marriage supper of the Lamb.”—“Testimonies for the Church,” vol. 5, p. 690. Peter, looking forward to the purification of God’s church, and the commencement of the judgment for the living, says: “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17.)
Exodus 229:3
@@@^The evidence in Christ’s parable plainly reveals another call for laborers to the vineyard between the one in 1844, and the millennium, namely, at the eleventh hour. This being true, why is it, that the movement called out at the ninth hour (in 1844) has not forewarned the church that there is more truth to follow and another message, “call,” to come? Has God neglected to give the warning and left His people in darkness? We answer the question by quoting the following testimonies: “In view of that great day, the Word of God in the most solemn and impressive language calls upon His people to arouse from their spiritual lethargy, and to seek His face with repentance and humiliation: ‘Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain’!”—“The Great Controversy,” p. 311.
Exodus 264:4
@@@^My brethren I beg of you hear the voice of the Good Shepherd: “Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for @9henceforth@7 [from now on] there shall @9no more@7 come unto thee the @9uncircumcised@7 and the @9unclean@7. Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit on thy throne, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.” (Isa. 52:1, 2; A.R.V.) As these words are so plain, how can we doubt, or misconstrue their meaning?—It must be that the church of God is asleep in the dust! Thy God is calling thee, O Zion. God’s church, “the only object on earth upon which He bestows His supreme regard” is in captivity; she is bound by her “neck” to “men of good words and fair speeches.” Hear the Words of thy God, O Zion, arise and sit on thy throne for thou shall judge nations. Why make flesh thy arm? Is not thy God able to save thee? Is not the “Word of thy God quick, and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart?” “For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, @9until@7 the @9righteousness@7 thereof go forth as @9brightness@7, and the @9salvation@7 thereof @9as@7 a @9lamp@7 that @9burneth@7.” My brethren,”@9go@7 through, @9go@7 through the gates; @9prepare ye the way of the people@7; cast up, cast up the @9highway@7; gather @9out@7 the stones; @9lift up a standard for the people.@7” (Isa. 62:1, 10.)
Exodus 266:1
@@@^Jacob, the father in type of Israel the true, dreamed on the way to Padan-Aram, “And behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” (Gen. 28:12, 17.) Jacob’s dream was prophetic of a time when there will be a complete connection and constant communication with heaven and earth—the “@9loud cry@7” of the third angel’s message—the harvest time. To that glorious church these words apply: “@9This@7 is the house of God and the gate of heaven.” Only by the gospel proclamation through that Spiritual house can God save His people. There is to be One fold, One Shepherd, One Lord, One Truth to embrace, One salvation to accept, One road to travel, One gate to pass through, One train to take, and One time to depart, One Heaven to enter, One people, and One holy family. There can be no other way!
Exodus 274:2
@@@^Is the one who calls for obedience to the truth according to the Word of God tearing down or the ones who have broken every true principle of the message we bear? Who has caused divisions? Is it he who calls for obedience to the Word, or the one who refuses to hear a call from Heaven? Do you recall that the Christian church was split in seven reformatory sections because the messages were rejected? Who is the one that should be “shunned?” Is it he who accepts truth regardless of where it comes, or the one who allows prejudice to bar his mind from receiving the truth? Your claim of having all the truth, and that there is need of none, is denying every word written to the church. It is rejecting in advance every message of truth or light God may choose to send. It is shutting God out, and cutting the church loose from His stretched out arm. It is a preparatory step toward sinning against the Holy Ghost. Your assertion that there shall be no more prophets, is casting off before hand the latter rain and the “@9loud cry!@7” It is denying the Word in its prophetic form, for we read: “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters @9shall prophesy@7, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.” (Joel 2:28.)
1 Samuel 8:10
@@@^Answer: The question which here arises is how is it possible to reconcile “The Shepherd’s Rod” with the “Spirit of Prophecy,” when the one seems to say that Jesus @9will leave@7 the most holy place at Eze. 9, while the other says He @9will not leave@7 until every case is decided?
Psalms 2:11
@@@^In closing I call your attention to the peaceable habitation which begins here on earth and will be ours for eternity. Says the Spirit of God: “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” (Isa. 11:6-9.)
Jeremiah 9:5
@@@^After returning home from a visit to Mt. Carmel, I realized more than ever that we had been privileged above many others who have not had the opportunity to place their feet on that Holy Ground and to partake of Mt. Carmel’s spiritual and the temporal foods. To us, our visit to Mt. Carmel was a little taste of heaven.
Daniel 6:14
@@@^Says the Spirit of Prophecy: “Directions had just been given for the immediate erection of the tabernacle for the service of God; and now the people might conclude, because the object had in view was the glory of God, and also because of their great need of a place of worship, that they would be justified in working at the building upon the Sabbath. To guard them from this error, the warning was given”: “Whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.” “Even the sacredness and urgency of that special work for God must not lead them to infringe upon His holy rest day.” (“Patriarchs and Prophets,” pp. 313, 314; Ex. 31:14.)
Daniel 7:7
@@@^“Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord! Yet He also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back His words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity. Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out His hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.” (Isa. 31:1-3.) “The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in Him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.” (Ps. 64:10.) “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” (Job. 13:15.) “What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the Lord hath founded Zion, and the poor of His people shall trust in it.” (Isa. 14:32.)
Hosea 4:3
@@@^In attempting to hold Bible studies in some of the homes, we found our way blocked by opposition right from the start. Most of the church members seem determined that the sealing message shall not gain a foothold here, but their hatred, and their unholy feasts against our efforts to help them, only prove to us that we are in the right. We are not at all discouraged but rather encouraged, for says the Spirit of Prophecy:
Acts 51:3
@@@^@9Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for My holy name; after that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against Me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there. Neither will I hide My face any more from them: for I have poured out My Spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord God.” Ezek. 39:9-13, 25-29. @7
1 Corinthians 13:3
@@@^Necessarily, then, the former of the two “mountains” is symbolical of the spirit-filled early Christian church prior to 538 A.D., and the latter, of the Christian church sometime after 1798 A.D., when it is, as was the early Christian church, fitted for God’s Holy Dwelling Place as described in the following scriptures: “O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I . . . will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles . . . And @9all@7 thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” Isa. 54:11-13.
